The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling

Actor: Foster, Jodie
Character: Clarice Starling
Movie: The Silence of the Lambs
Year: 1991
Plot Summary: FBI trainee Clarice Starling works hard to advance her career, while trying to hide/put behind her West Virginia roots, of which if some knew, would automatically classify her as being backward or white trash. After graduation, she aspires to work in the agency's Behavioral Science Unit under the leadership of Jack Crawford. While she is still a trainee, Crawford asks her to question Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a psychiatrist imprisoned, thus far, for eight years in maximum security isolation for being a serial killer who cannibalized his victims. Clarice is able to figure out the assignment is to pick Lecter's brains to help them solve another serial murder case, that of someone coined by the media as Buffalo Bill, who has so far killed five victims, all located in the eastern US, all young women who are slightly overweight (especially around the hips), all who were drowned in natural bodies of water, and all who were stripped of large swaths of skin. She also figures that Crawford chose her, as a woman, to be able to trigger some emotional response from Lecter. After speaking to Lecter for the first time, she realizes that everything with him will be a psychological game, with her often having to read between the very cryptic lines he provides. She has to decide how much she will play along, as his request in return for talking to him is to expose herself emotionally to him. The case takes a more dire turn when a sixth victim is discovered, this one from who they are able to retrieve a key piece of evidence, if Lecter is being forthright as to its meaning. A potential seventh victim is high profile Catherine Martin, the daughter of Senator Ruth Martin, which places greater scrutiny on the case as they search for a hopefully still alive Catherine. Who may factor into what happens is Dr. Frederick Chilton, the warden at the prison, an opportunist who sees the higher profile with Catherine, meaning a higher profile for himself if he can insert himself successfully into the proceedings.

She uses her gun several more times, always gunning down people committing violent crimes. One day she is summoned to the police station to identify a man who may have been responsible for David's death and the assault on herself. She does recognize him, but refuses to identify him. Subsequently she finds out his whereabouts and plans to avenge her lover's death, not realizing that Detective Mercer has her as a suspect in the recent killings and is set to apprehend her. Flightplan (2005) - Jodie Foster as Kyle Pratt

Actor: Foster, Jodie
Character: Kyle Pratt
Movie: Flight Plan
Year: 2005
Plot Summary: Berlin based David Pratt has just died from a fall off the roof of his apartment building. There is uncertainty whether his death was accidental or a suicide. His wife, aircraft propulsion engineer Kyle Pratt, and their six year old daughter Julia Pratt, are in grief and under emotional trauma from the incident. They are flying his body back from Berlin to New York for the burial. Aboard the Alto Airlines jumbo jet flight, Julia goes missing following an extended nap by Kyle. As Julia has a tendency to wander off, Kyle initially believes she has done so again and will be found easily. However no one remembers ever seeing Julia on board, including the flight attendants. As the flight attendants look for her, the entire flight crew and Kyle learn that there is no record of her ever been on board - no boarding pass, no name on the official manifest, and no extra person on the official head count conducted by the flight attendant prior to her supposed disappearance. Further information from Berlin comes to light that Julia could never have been on board. Kyle is certain that someone on board has taken her and that someone with the airline who could alter official flight records is also involved in her disappearance. Kyle's increasing rantings put her at direct odds with the inconvenienced passengers, the flight attendants (who previously admitted that they have their favorite and not so favorite passengers, Kyle who now falls into the latter category), but most specifically Captain Rich and Sky Marshal Carson, whose foremost goal is the safety of all passengers. With a detailed knowledge of aircraft design, Kyle believes she has an upper hand in finding Julia if only someone would believe her and let her search. Or is the trauma from David's death playing games with her mind so that she would be searching for someone who no longer exists?
